Abstract:
In light of the debate concerning women-artists and women-artist-mothers-etc. in the art system, and the introduction of “motherhood” as a topic in academia, this essay aims to contribute to research on conditions for artistic and theoretical practices and forms of legitimation vis-à-vis this particular segment. The association between feminisms-art-motherhood-academia locates viewpoints in Brazil, under the sway both of a precarization of reproductive rights and the absence of structural resources either from the state or from private sources. Taking this context into consideration, the essay is geared towards the question: from the force of creation – taken here in its more literal meaning – to the addressing of artistic-theoretical practices by female art (re)producers, what does the word “mother”, in association with women-artists and women-artists-scholars-etc., evoke nowadays?
contemporary art, feminisms, motherhood, academia.
